What is The Power of Us?
If you are hopeless, anxious, numb or checked out, we need you, for your despair is sacred. There is a broken heart in your despair that would contribute if it knew how, without becoming burned out or checked out.
Small dinner gatherings are the foundation of this movement centered in spirit, in the heart, and guided by values and principles to keep us committed to love and compassion.
We face the global crisis first by addressing where we are emotionally and mentally, and connecting with each other exactly where we are.
This love and connection is the bedrock of the world I wish to help create, and it is the sacred center which powered the movements of Gandhi, King and Mandela.
Small gatherings were the success of the American Revolution, and the women’s sufferage movement, the labor movement, the anti-Vietnam war movement and the environmental movement of the 70s which created the Clean Air Act. Margaret Mead said famously, “Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. It’s the only thing that ever has.”
When we build on the wins and wisdom of past movements, we know that it only takes an engaged, nonviolent 3.5% of a population to overwhelmingly achieve a movement’s goals, as did every such movement in the 20th century. In the US that would be 12 million people.
When we reject the inflammatory propoganda fed to us by the major media channels, including our addiction to our devices and the algorithms controled by them, we see that the enemy is not the other political side, it’s mainly our own collective despair, and disengagement. And it’s the systemic political corruption and economic injustice that we feel powerless to change.
Our strategy has three phases: In addition to spending half of our efforts on ongoingly inviting new members, Phase one focuses on getting out the vote to help keep anti-democratic extremists out of office.
In phase two, as we near the 12 million people needed for a political slam dunk, we focus our energy on promoting and passing the American Anti Corruption Act, which would end corporate personhood, gerrymandering, bribery, and lobbying as we know it. Every other issue frozen until we greatly reduce political corruption and corporate power.
And phase three is to energize and promote the Transition Cities movement, which is about creating thriving, autonomouos local regenerative communities.

Reaching 12 million people
Historically, non-violent movements have been overwhelmingly successful – not one failed in the 20th century – when they reached the tipping point of 3 1/2% of their nation’s population. Erika Chenoweth, a Harvard political scientist, discovered this fact in her research of over 100 nonviolent change movements. In the United States, 3.5% of the population is 12 million people.
Statistically, when someone invites a trusted friend to a cause, 50% sign up. Taking that into consideration, and using a viral calculator, here’s how we can reach 12 million people in a month. Assuming a starting group of 24, and share invitations within four days, here’s what could happen:
People enrolled by day 4 = 168
People enrolled by day 8 = 1,032
People enrolled by day 12 = 6,216
People enrolled by day 16 = 37,320
People enrolled by day 20 = 223,944
People enrolled by day 24 = 1,343,688
People enrolled by day 28 = 8,062,152
People enrolled by day 32 = 48,372,936
